Scripture verse: Matthew 5:17-20

Although its true origin is shrouded in mystery due to various renditions, the song, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel in its current form is dated to 1710 or thereabouts.  A hymn of Advent, it is attached to the Magnificat at Vespers, for the final days of the Christmas season (December 17 – 23). The tune developed separately from the words, coming from 15th century France.

The song is sometimes referred to as the O Antiphons because each verse begins with the interjection "O". Each antiphon is a name of Christ, one of his attributes mentioned in Scripture.

O Wisdom

O Lord

O Root of Jesse

O Key of David

O Dayspring

O King Of The Nations

O With Us Is God
