Scripture verse: Mark 16:15
Go Tell It on the Mountain is an African-American spiritual, whose original writer is lost to history. The song was compiled by John Wesley Work, Jr., about 1865. It is also considered a Christmas carol because it proclaims Christ’s birth.
Mahalia Jackson was an American gospel singer. "The Queen of Gospel" had a powerful contralto especially suited to gospel music. "I sing God's music because it makes me feel free", Jackson once said about her choice of gospel, adding, "It gives me hope."
