Meet Scott Harrington from The Least of These by Kathleen Neely

Tell us your name and a little bit about yourself
Scott Harrington is a freelance journalist. He defied the wishes of his father and didn’t follow in the long line of Harrington attorneys. Scott’s simple lifestyle is a contrast to the affluent, country club life of his youth. That socialite lifestyle robbed him of his parent’s time and probably contributed to his brother’s drug addiction which cost him his life.

Where do you live, and why do you choose to live there?
Scott lives in a small township outside of the city of Pittsburgh. He likes the small town neighborhood where he chooses to live simply, the opposite of his wealthy childhood. He lives next door to Stella who owns a local cafe. She's a good friend.
What is a quirk of your personality that people don't know?
Scott desires to win a prestigious journalism award, hoping to earn his father’s respect. He carries guilt regarding his brother’s death. He knew about the drugs but never shared that information with his parents. Could it be that his efforts to help three homeless men are actually an atonement for his failure to help his brother?
Who chronicled your story, and why do you think he/she picked you?
Kathleen Neely wrote this story because it mirrors the story of so many people. People sometimes carry guilt that doesn’t belong to them as Scott did regarding his brother’s death. People often do right things for wrong reasons, as Scott did in trying to get his father’s approval. People can be blinded to the blessings of life that are right in front of them, as Scott did regarding Stella.
What obstacles did you overcome in order to reach your happily-ever-after?
Tyler helped Scott to see beyond his misguided vision. He had to release the quest to please his father and do the right thing. Stella was so patient waiting for him to get past his insecurities. She never gave up.

Tell us about your special lady (or your knight in shining armour, if you're the heroine). What makes him/her so special?
Stella is Scott’s next door neighbor and best friend. She’s independent, spunky, and wise. He finds himself running to her when he needs a listening ear, a piece of advice, or a dogsitter. Despite her best efforts to get him to notice her beyond friendship, Scott’s too self-absorbed in his project. But she’s always there.
