Meet the Heroine, Kaitlyn Driver, from Turbocharged by Jessie Gussman

Tell us your name and a little bit about yourself
Kaitlyn Driver. I work for my dad in his trucking company. In my spare time I've put together a pulling rig and I plan to win the championship this year. My older brother, Kyle, won the year before he died. I want to show my dad that I can do it too.
Where do you live, and why do you choose to live there?
Transmission, PA. That's where my dad's trucking company is located.
What is a quirk of your personality that people don't know?
I act tough, but it's mostly a cover for all the insecurities I keep hidden.
Who chronicled your story, and why do you think she picked you?
Jessie Gussman wrote about me, and I think she did it because she sees a lot of people like me around – who are hurting on the inside and acting tough to cover it – and she wanted to show the world that things aren't always what they seem.
What obstacles did you overcome in order to reach your happily-ever-after?
My objects were psychological, having to do with my brother's death and how I blamed myself, how I felt my dad didn't love me and how I felt I needed to be hard so people couldn't hurt me.
Tell us about your knight in shining armour. What makes him so special?
The Bible says that marriage relationship between a man and a woman is a picture of the relationship between Christ and the Church. Nate is special because he was able to show me this, not with words – I wouldn't have listened – but by his actions.
The first time you saw your special person, what did you think? Was it love at first sight or did he have to grow on you?
Definitely not love at first sight. Or second. Or third. Ha. We had to be stuck in the same garage for days before my blind eyes were opened.
