What makes this book special to you?
The book is special because it's the fulfillment of a childhood dream and the realization of a vision God had given me back in 2012 of a completed work resting in the palm of His hand. It features the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains where me and my husband have lived for the past twenty years and raised our four children.
What makes this a "must read" and why?
I believe Call to Love is a "must read" because it demonstrates the power of transformation, the ability of each character trapped by their fear, to be able to do something at the end they could not do at the beginning. It emboldens the reader to trust God in all things and to seek forgiveness in order to enjoy freedom in Christ.
What does your family think of your writing?
Though it's cost quality time on occasion, they are all very supportive. For many years, my children were my priority in home education and are all cheering for mom as she's chosen to put her chalk down and pursue her own dreams.
What is your next project?
I'm working on a 3-part series set in New Orleans, southern Louisiana that features an 1846 antebellum plantation house. There are two sisters and a half-sister they didn't know they had. The theme of these books is restoration.
It asks the question, "What is an abandoned plantation house restores its owner?"
What is the hardest part about writing?
Research. Definitely research. If I know nothing about a character's occupation but want to write authentically I find it best to shadow them if I have the golden opportunity. Q&A with professionals via email or phone calls and You Tube tutorials only go so far.
Do you have advice for other writers?
Write when you don't feel like it. Don't give up. While we must continue to do the work of marketing ourselves in a big world of books, it's critical to trust God to take our story to the places He wants it to go and into the hands of the people He knows needs to read it. Our service to Him might result in a large platform or reaching a select few. In all of it, He is sovereign.
