Heavenly Lights: Noah's Journey
by Barbara Britton
Tell us your name and a little bit about yourself My name is Jeremiah ben Abishua. I wish I could speak to you about myself, but I don’t hear or speak. Few people take the time to understand me save Noah. She motions with her hands to make me understand her wishes. I am the fourth son of Abishua although I am the strongest. I take care of my father’s herds and that is how I know Noah so well. We help each other out with the animals. |

Where do you live, and why do you choose to live there? I spend most of my time outside of the Israelite camp shepherding my father’s flocks. I enjoy the quiet, well what quiet there is outside of the bleats and snorts of my herds. My brothers are going off to fight for the city of Ai. Maybe this time I will go and bring back spoils of war so I can have a bride price for Noah. If I don’t ask to be her betrothed someone else will. Noah may be headstrong, but she has a strong faith in God, and no one has healthier herds than Noah. |

What obstacles did you overcome in order to reach your happily-ever-after? The battle for Ai was considered an easy battle in comparison to the siege of Jericho. My fellow warriors did not give much thought to defeat. Little did we know that Achan had stolen from God and broken our covenant with god. God was not with us as we went to war. As we approached Ai, its men emerged from the city and chased us down the slopes. Hebrew blood was spilled. I was scared, but then my friends were swept away in a landslide of rock. I couldn’t leave my friends, so I fought to keep them alive. A wayward club sent me into a coma. All I could see was stars in God’s sky. Little did I know what would be waiting for me when I woke from my concussion. |

Tell us about your special lady. What makes her so special? Noah bat Zelophehad is the only woman I know who will sling a camel from a tree or sleep in a nest with a calf. She is fierce about protecting her animals, but you should see her loyalty to her sisters. Those five daughters of Zelophehad go into battle as one with God at their side. My faith in God has grown watching Noah stand firm on God’s Word—the law Moses brought to our people from God. One crunched eyebrow look from Noah and I brace for a flurry of animated hand motions. It’s a good thing I know she likes honey and ripe fruit. |

The first time you saw your special person, what did you think? Was it love at first sight or did she have to grow on you?
