Meet Barbara M. Britton's hero from Claiming Canaan

Tell us your name and a little bit about yourself
My name is Eli ben Abishua. I am the third son of Abishua, but I am rarely talked about. Well, I am rarely praised. There is plenty of talk about my past mistakes. Now, I am betrothed to one of the daughters of Zelophehad–the wise and meek one. God must have a sense of humor, or he believes in me more than I believe in myself.
Where do you live, and why do you choose to live there?
My clan is traveling from Gilgal to Shiloh to set up the tabernacle of God. Afterwards, I will venture into the Jezreel Valley with my wife. That word on my tongue sounds like foreign babble. Whatever land Milcah inherits, I will work with fervor. Milcah believes in me. If only I could believe in myself.
What is a quirk of your personality that people don't know?
Under my slick talk and imbibed laughter, there is a heart for the Lord. I try to please my father and God, sometimes I please them both, although most times I fail. I have a sense that God is blessing me with Milcah as a wife, and her land to make us flourish. I want to be someone who people respect and praise. I am going to do what the daughters of Zelophehad do–go forth with God.
Who chronicled your story, and why do you think he/she picked you?
I heard the author was planning to write one book and changed her mind and wrote three books. I wasn't the most stellar character in her first book, but she was stuck with me. I have heard that opposites attract, so maybe her instincts were better than she thought.
What obstacles did you overcome in order to reach your happily-ever-after?
Praise God that he forgives our sins. I had a tendency to drink too much wine and loose my wealth in games of chance. I did not value the livestock and wealth that I won in battle. How could I not see God's protection and blessing. My eyes were opened one night when I fell from a tree. I fell upon Milcah which caused a lot of trouble for her family. God works in ways we cannot fathom.
Tell us about your special lady (or your knight in shining armour, if you're the heroine). What makes him/her so special?
Milcah has a strong faith in God and a strong will to make her inheritance prosperous. She desires to honor her father's name. She is willowy, and does not carry a blade or whip like her older sisters, but I have never encountered a woman with such determination. I pray that I can make her happy.
The first time you saw your special person, what did you think? Was it love at first sight or did he/she have to grow on you?
How could I see Milcah past her four older sisters? The daughters of Zelophehad were always in the center of turmoil and gossip. What bold women they are. Bold in faith. Bold in speech. Bold in loving their husbands. It was dark when I tumbled onto Milcah, though you can always see the light in her eyes. Praise God she did not dodge my fall.
